DAD
The Digital Accessibility Directory

Check the accessibility of any website. Get your score, generate your accessibility statement, and ensure compliance with European standards.

Why digital accessibility matters

Digital accessibility concerns every organisation. It is a human imperative, a legal obligation, and a business opportunity.

A web for everyone

In Europe, 87 million people live with a disability — nearly one in four adults. Add to that older adults, users with temporary impairments, and everyone who benefits from clearer, better-structured interfaces. Making a website accessible means opening your digital doors to a far wider audience than most organisations realise.

A legal obligation now in force

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) has been in force since 28 June 2025. It requires businesses with more than 10 employees and annual revenue exceeding 2 million euros to make their digital services accessible. The public sector has already been subject to Directive 2016/2102 since 2019. The question is no longer whether you need to comply, but how.

A competitive advantage

People with disabilities represent over 2 trillion euros in purchasing power across Europe. An accessible website also improves your search engine rankings, reduces bounce rates, and strengthens your brand image. Accessibility compliance is not just an obligation — it is a sound investment.

How DAD guides you towards compliance

Three steps to go from "where do I stand?" to documented accessibility compliance.

1

Search for your website

Enter any website URL in our directory. If the site has already been audited, view its results straight away. If not, launch a free automated scan: your site will be analysed and added to the directory.

2

Review your score

Access a clear summary of the site's accessibility status: overall score, breakdown of violations by severity and category, and WCAG 2.1 compliance level. Understand at a glance what is working well and where improvements are needed.

3

Take action

Depending on your needs, generate an accessibility statement that meets European requirements, obtain a detailed technical report with actionable remediation recommendations, or request an in-depth audit carried out by experts.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about digital accessibility and how DAD works.

DAD (Digital Accessibility Directory) is the first public directory of web accessibility audits in Europe. The platform lets you check the accessibility score of any website, run automated audits, generate accessibility statements that meet European requirements, and obtain detailed technical reports to guide your accessibility compliance journey.

The European Accessibility Act (EAA, Directive 2019/882) is European legislation in force since 28 June 2025. It requires private-sector businesses to make their digital products and services accessible to people with disabilities. It complements Directive 2016/2102, which has applied to the public sector since 2019.

If your organisation has more than 10 employees and annual revenue exceeding 2 million euros, it is very likely covered. The EAA applies to e-commerce websites, online banking services, transport services, telecommunications, and audiovisual media, among others. Micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees AND under EUR 2 million in revenue) providing services are exempt. If in doubt, feel free to contact us.

Our automated audits use industry-standard tools to analyse web pages against WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria — the benchmark standard within the European framework (EN 301 549). The scan detects issues such as missing alternative text on images, insufficient colour contrast, poorly labelled forms, and keyboard navigation problems. The AI-assisted in-depth audit extends this analysis to criteria that typically require manual testing. The expert audit includes comprehensive manual testing with assistive technologies.

The simplified audit is fully automated: a scanner analyses your website against WCAG 2.1 AA rules that a tool can detect. It covers approximately 30 to 40% of WCAG criteria. The AI-assisted in-depth audit goes further by using artificial intelligence to evaluate criteria that normally require human judgement (semantic structure, relevance of alternative text, navigation consistency, etc.). The human expert audit is the most comprehensive: it covers all WCAG criteria through manual testing and testing with users with disabilities.

For the public sector, yes: Directive 2016/2102 requires a formal accessibility statement for every website and mobile application. For the private sector, the EAA requires service providers to publish information explaining how their service meets accessibility requirements. In both cases, publishing a structured accessibility statement is the best way to fulfil these obligations and demonstrate your commitment.

We recommend updating your accessibility statement and report at least once a year, or after any significant change to your website. Directive 2016/2102 explicitly requires an annual review for the public sector. For the private sector, regular updates demonstrate ongoing compliance to supervisory authorities.

The DAD directory lists web accessibility audit results for websites. Each entry shows an accessibility score, a summary of detected violations, and the WCAG compliance level. The directory is populated by user-requested scans and by our own audit campaigns. Its goal is to promote transparency and encourage continuous improvement in web accessibility.

Absolutely. The directory is a tool for improvement, not judgement. If you own a listed website, you can re-run a scan at any time to reflect the improvements you have made. You can also claim your listing to add additional information. If you believe a result is inaccurate, our team is available to discuss it.

The automated scan and access to the directory are completely free. Generating an accessibility statement that meets European requirements starts at EUR 199 (excl. VAT). The AI-assisted in-depth audit is available at EUR 990 (excl. VAT). For a full audit conducted by human experts, a custom quote is provided based on the size and complexity of your website.
